Sometimes when you wake up
You roll over and cough
You swear you’re going to quit
But cross your fingers because you never mean it

You’re on break, the sign says no
But you do it anyway
God sends you a sign, you ignore it
Because you’re nicon’ to bad to go through with it

Protests say it’s not an addiction
It’s all in your head
You could tell anyone that just isn’t true
Because you’re addicted to it like paper to glue

So you go to the store and walk to the counter
You ask for a pack, then say wait make it two
You hear your friends all saying you should quit
But you scream hell with it then

A slow suicide fate.

I'm not exactly sure what's gotten into me lately but I've been in a mood to write real life poetry. My goal is to someday be another Sylvia Plath or Edgar Allen Poe, I know I Know Ill never be that great; well that may as well be because I'm NOT going to commit suicide :D


This poem if it's not obvious is about smoking, and the fact that i know people who JUST CAN'T QUIT no matter how hard they have/are tried/trying.

Careful about pursuing your dream of becoming one of those poets that stick around forever - they have a habit of digging a grave with drugs and killing themselves just so they can find out what it's like. We can use more writers like poe, but not more people like him.

Anyways, your poem bugs me, but that's just because I'm a smoker and I feel about ready to rip the throat out of the next person who tells me I should quit - I smoke because I like it, and if I'm addicted, then so be it.

Aside from that, it's a well written piece, I like your staggered rhyme scheme, and the bit about paper being addicted to glue was worth a giggle.

In conclusion: Didn't like the subject, but liked the poem. :D

haha I would never kill myself, and ive already done my fair share of drugs and im done with it. i want to write as good as poe, not become poe ^^;

when i wrote this poem i was aware of the fact that people wud dislike it, its just reality. My cousin smokes, she's very much so addicted. But as the poem begins to sum up u realize that just because someone says u shud doesnt mean you will. and everyone has their own life choices to make
